Check Out These Family Events (Many Are Free & Virtual) Around Dallas Area

We have rounded up a few events around greater Dallas we think you and your family would enjoy. Many of them are are free and are virtual events you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home.  Here are some activities for January – February:

JANUARY

Dallas Museum of Art – More than 25,000 works of art from all cultures and time periods spanning 5,000 years of human creativity. General admission includes viewing the Museum’s collection galleries and most exhibitions, but requires a timed ticket secured in advance in order to maintain a limited capacity. Most exhibits are available online for a virtual tour.

Dallas Public LibraryVirtual Event – Zookeeper’s Game of Animal Facts, from 4 to 5 PM

Wednesday, Jan. 13 Cindi and live animals from All About Animals Live will take you on a tour. This program is available online only. Registration is required. Participants must register by 3 PM Jan. 13th on the Dallas Public Library website

The Black Academy of Arts & LettersVirtual Event – A tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. concert. Remembering the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., this concert tribute dramatizes contemporary moments of the Black Lives Matter crusade and the memories of the 1960’s Civil Rights movement. An evening of narrations, testimonials, music and dance. One login will allow streaming on one device for $17.50.

Allen Public Library Virtual Event Join every Monday morning at 10:15 AM on the Allen Public Library Facebook page for fun literacy based activities that incorporate reading, talking, playing, singing and writing, especially for families with toddlers and preschoolers.

KidFilm Festival – Angelika Film Center 5321 E Mockingbird Ln #230, Dallas, TX 75206 – The USA Film Festival Dallas will present the (in-theater) 37th annual KidFilm Family Festival, the oldest and largest all-ages film festival in the United States. All programs are free to the community. The program will feature an entertaining, educational and diverse line-up of new and favorite films for audiences of all ages as well as free books. Tickets must be reserved in advance.

Frisco Public Library – Babies Zoom Story Time – Virtual Event – Meet on Zoom from 10:30 – 11:30 AM to engage with other parents and caregivers of babies (birth to walking) for singing songs, trying out rhymes, finger plays, and share a book together. Enjoy some quality time with your little one in a supportive and encouraging environment. Registration is required. A zoom link will be sent to registrants the day before the event.

Bring On 2021! Get Support from WIC

NEW YEAR, HEALTHY START: GET WIC SUPPORT

Every year people hope to turn over a new leaf in the New Year. People have big plans for 2021, and why not make it the Year of Everything is Possible? If you want this year to be your big year of health, start by getting support from WIC. 

WIC stands for Woman, Infant and Children and is a program designed to help mothers help their children get a healthy start in life. The program offers support with clinic visits, education classes and nutrition supplements for you and your children, including help with breastfeeding.

There is no better way to help your children than to be a great example.  WIC offers the tools you need to be a great example for you and your kids. Plus, they offer a ton of free resources to help along your health journey.

WIC SUPPORTS MOTHER’S HEALTH

To help be a healthy example for your kids, nutrition starts with mothers. WIC offers guidelines online about eating healthy. They even have suggested recipes to make at home. This time of year, their Chili recipe is perfect for New Year’s Day.

If you recently gave birth, WIC offers tips about how to get back to a healthy you, including getting enough sleep, getting back to a healthy weight and how to care for your emotional health. Baby blues are a real thing. If you think you are suffering from postpartum depression, there are resources.

WIC SUPPORTS CHILDREN’S HEALTH

No one is taught how to feed babies or children until they become a mother. We have to learn. WIC is a great teacher. They provide many resources on breastfeeding, how to use and mix formula and handle a picky eater
